High tea is lovely and all, but if you can smash some delicious wine at the same time then it might just be the best thing ever. Here are some tried and true places in Perth where you can do just that…
Don’t even need to think about this one – Rochelle Adonis is my favourite place to have high tea in Perth. I love it so much I had my (very classy, penis-free) hens do here (before we headed out dancing and things became much less glamorous). Inspired by European flavours, Rochelle Adonis do sumptuous savouries, decadent desserts and most importantly are fully licensed so you can buy some sparkling to go with your food. You can also BYO.
My most favourite dish is the little ice cream sundae that comes out with the sweets. I always want to save it til last so I know I’ll be finishing the off on a high but it’s ice cream so you should sorta eat it first while its at its optimum frozenness… such a condundrum!
For my birthday last year my husband got me a voucher to high tea at The George to share with friends. It is probably one of the best birthday presents he has bought me. The food was great, the wine was lovely and some fucking hilarious stories were told.
A perhaps more traditional take on high tea, think finger sandwiches, baby quiches, scones with jam and cream, macarons and other delectable treats. We of course chose to upgrade to the package which included unlimited Chandon Rose and we made sure we got our money’s worth…. Such a fun way to while away a few hours with some of your best mates.
I heart this place. Freakin’ delicious savouries and sweets made using fresh ingredients and obviously made with love. BYO sparkling with corkage at $5 per bottle means you can enjoy your own favourite tipple with your treats. We seem to always take Prosecco because Prosecco goes with everything.
One of the things I really like is they do a kids sizing of afternoon tea, so if you are looking for a place that still feels a bit fancy but is totally ok with your bringing your little mates with you – go check this place out.
One of the good things about TWR is you don’t need to book. So if you feel like putting on a dress and some lipstick at the last minute you can still rock up here and get high tea service.
They do a High Coffee (rather than tea) which involves a salted caramel martini (!) and four chocolate flavoured dessert pairings (brulee, chocolate cigar, whiskey mousse chocolate dome and a macaroon). When we went, we started with cheese and bubbles and watched them pump out at least 2000 of these… and of course by the time we got around to ordering our High Coffee, they had run out…. As luck would have it they still had the ingredients to make the cocktails and instead we paired them with the other petit fours on the menu. I suspect these were actually more amazing than the chocolate pairings but still, we must go back and try the actual High Coffee soon…
Bistro Guillaume do a sort-of-French inspired afternoon tea including the usual suspects: macaroons, scones with jam and cream, quiche, mille-feuille plus other delectable items of goodness. Quite delicious, when we went we were offered a glass of sparkling on arrival but checking the menu now I’m not 100% if they still do this. Fear not as they have an extensive wine list that you can order from (and let’s be serious, one glass of sparkling is never enough anyhow…)
Also very handy, Guillaume is just next door to the champagne lounge in Crown Perth, La Vie, so you can kick on for some more bubbles after high tea if you feel like it.
